Michigan Rescue and Restore Coalition took a big step in April to host their first human trafficking conference on the campus of Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing, Michigan. The call was to help to raise awareness to bring to the forefront the problem of trafficking in our cities from Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Lincoln Park to Pontiac. In this region many young people are vulnerable and unsuspecting and being lured into what is described as 21st century human trafficking. Many are in bondage to the #2 criminal enterprise in the world. Sex trafficking and labor trafficking, commercial sexual exploitation is the ugly reality impacting anywhere from 200,000-400,000 of US citizens. The cost to our children if we ignore this reality or put our heads in the sand would be diastrous! As a community we must educate ourselves, shake the branches and move everyday people, law makers, law enforcemement, chucrhes, schools everyone involved! We must all be equipped to identify the lethal cycle of bondage that preys on the innocence of our community and teach our young people to be more vigilant and safe. The challenge is to reach and inform the metro region and the state with a renewed hope through programs offered through the Michigan Rescue and Restore Coalition as well as others who are on the front line demanding and pursuing change. Show you care, find an organization or join the MIRRC coalition and together change our world.
